How much does one LED bulb save per year?
Take the wattage difference (a 60W incandescent to a 9W LED is 51W), divide by 1,000, multiply by hours used per day, by 365, then by your rate per kWh. At 3 hours a day and 17 cents per kWh that single bulb is a few dollars a year — which is why the count of bulbs and their hours matters more than the bulb brand.
Are smart bulbs worth the extra money?
In rooms where lights get left on, yes: schedules and dimming remove the waste. In a closet used for thirty seconds a day, a plain LED is the better buy.
Do LEDs really last longer?
Rated life is typically 15,000–25,000 hours against about 1,000 for an incandescent. Real life depends on heat and enclosure — an LED sealed in a hot fixture will not reach its rating.
Why does my LED flicker on a dimmer?
Older dimmers were designed for resistive incandescent loads. Use an LED-rated dimmer and bulbs marked dimmable, and the flicker usually disappears.
